Matahari is situated on the
North West coast of Gili Air. It is run by a local family
who gave me a wonderfully friendly Indonesian welcome.
There were a range of bungalows from budget to very
comfortable and even a guest house if you really want to
save the pennies
During July and August prices
rise accross the island but Matahari manages to keep below
the competition and it was the cheapest place youI could
find on the island apart from the occasional guesthouse in
the centre but it is better to be by the sea as it is too
hot in the middle.
Stay at Matahari Bungalows is should one of the best on the
island, it's quite and comfortable with excellent services
from the owner.
Matahari's restaurant is excellent with a wide range of
local (Sasak) food and Western dishes, it is all homemade by
Mama!! I ate there nearly every night because you will
liked it so much but if you fancy a change - Tamis's near
the harbour has the best burger
You also get breakfast every
morning included with the price of the room. For a change of
scenery it is only a 10 minute walk to a variety of
Restaurants and bars - head to Legend Bar on Wednesday
nights for what is usually a pretty good party with a nice
mix of locals and tourists.
